Meet Jacob Van Gundy: Bringing Expertise and Community Connection to Delaware with Best Door & Window

We’re excited to introduce our newest Sales Representative for the Delaware area, Jacob Van Gundy. Jacob brings not only years of experience in the window and door industry but also a deep connection to the Delaware community through his family’s former business, Empire Windows. 

We sat down with Jacob to learn more about his journey, his passion for helping homeowners, and what makes him the perfect fit for this role.

Continuing a Legacy of Service in Delaware 
Q: You have a strong connection to the Delaware community through your family’s former business, Empire Windows. How does it feel to continue serving the people of Delaware in a new role, and what excites you most about this opportunity? 

Jacob: It feels great to have the opportunity to continue serving the Delaware community. It was tough to tell our customers that Empire Windows was shutting down after so many years of service. However, I’m grateful that I can continue to help both new and past customers as a trusted resource for windows and doors. 

What excites me most about this new role with Best Door & Window is the potential for growth. Empire Windows had an established presence in the area and had settled into its role. Now, with Best Door & Window just starting to establish itself in Delaware, there’s incredible potential to grow and expand. With our wide range of product offerings and dedication to quality, I’m excited to see how we can grow and become an integral part of the community. 
 
Lessons Learned from a Lifetime in the Business 
Q: What lessons or values did you learn from working with Empire Windows that you’re bringing to your new position with us? 

Jacob: The most important lesson I’ve learned is that every home, business, and customer is unique. What works for one homeowner may not be the best fit for another. Listening to customers and understanding their specific needs is critical to finding the right solution. 

These products—whether it’s a window or a door—become a part of someone’s daily life. They’re in constant use, and they need to enhance the homeowner’s quality of life. That’s why it’s so important to focus on providing personalized solutions that fit each customer’s specific situation. 
 
Supporting a Growing and Diverse Community 
Q: What do you think makes Delaware a unique place to work and serve, and how do you plan to support homeowners in the area? 

Jacob: Delaware is a unique place because it’s constantly growing and evolving. You’ll find everything from historic Victorian homes and old farmhouses to sleek, modern builds—and each one has its own unique needs. 

I plan to support homeowners by helping them make informed decisions about the products that go into their homes. For example, what works for a Victorian home might not be the best choice for a newly built house, and vice versa. It’s all about tailoring the solution to the specific needs of each home. 

Helping Homeowners Choose the Right Products 
Q: With your background in the window business, what are some key things homeowners should know when choosing the right products for their homes? 

Jacob: One of the biggest things to understand is that your home is a system. Choosing the right window, door, or other product isn’t just about addressing one specific area--it’s about considering how it fits into the bigger picture. 

For instance, the product’s styling, specs, and functionality should complement the overall structure and needs of the home. It’s important to think about long-term performance, aesthetics, and how the product will integrate into your daily life. 
 
Building Relationships That Last 
Q: As someone who’s deeply rooted in this community, what are your goals for building relationships and helping homeowners in Delaware? 

Jacob: My ultimate goal is to continue being a trusted, local resource for the community. I’ve been a part of this area my entire life, and now I’m raising my family here. I’m invested in making Delaware a better place for everyone. 

I want to help homeowners find products they’ll love for years to come—products that enhance their homes and their lives. Building those relationships and being part of a company that homeowners can depend on is incredibly important to me.
